Oliver Scott is the artistic director of Mercurial Dance and also a Creative agent for Cre8us.
As a Creative agent with Cre8us Oliver brings his wide ranging skills in establishing projects and facilitating creative dialogue between different groups. “My work is concerned with children and young people. I create work with them, for them to explore and sometimes, to simply enjoy. My practice is guided by inspiration, imagination, daring to take risks and giving time to play.”
Oliver was drawn into dance whist reading Biology, and after gaining a Batchelor of Science, trained in dance at Coventry Centre for the Performing Arts. His experience as a performer includes amongst a variety of short performance projects, Dance Umbrella’s award winning Genesis Canyon at the Natural History Museum(1996), touring Earthfall's Fabulous Wounds throughout the UK and Europe(1997-99) and more recently Fence Crossing’s Defenceless(2005/6&8) – a series of improvised performances.
Taking a couple of years out of dance to work as an Event Manager organising conferences, international sailing events and team building for corporate clients gave an insight to the world of business. Away from dance for too long Oliver returned to devise and tour Volatile (2002-3) with Motionhouse before establishing Mercurial Dance. He is Director, Choreographer and Performer in Mercurial’s works, which include 100 Faces(2006); Dancing Digits(2006); BeRibboned(2007) and Risky Business(2009).
Oliver is also guest lectures in Performing Arts at De Montfort University and Coventry University. He combines this with the youth and educational work of his company, Mercurial Dance. He has choreographed and directed a number of films and shows with young people, which can be seen on his website http://www.mercurialdance.co.uk
