Sarah is an educational consultant who has worked extensively with schools through the Creative Partnerships programme. Together they have explored creative approaches to teaching and learning, student voice, learning environments, curriculum planning and others. She is known for her supportive approach with the ability to challenge where appropriate; also for her straightforward and clear thinking in the gathering of evaluation data.
An increasing and significant area of her work involves working with schools as they develop a creative curriculum that is consistent with National Curriculum objectives and the progression of skills. Typically her approach includes: a joint audit with staff of the existing curriculum; collaborative work with pupils to establish student interests; development of teachers’ expertise in the planning process and post-project review of the whole school subject and skills coverage. In this way schools develop a bespoke curriculum that gives teachers ownership of their planning and delivery processes and the confidence to adapt to new circumstances. The feedback on this methodology has been unfailingly positive.
Sarah continues to teach part time in the Primary sector and also works in heritage education. Before becoming a teacher and consultant, Sarah was an educational broadcaster specialising in community and adult education. She produced, directed and researched many network and local ITV programmes. She was also a consultant to South West Arts and was involved with several arts organisations in the Westcountry.
